US, Pak made 'deal' over capture of Bin Laden: report
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf possibly struck a deal with the US not to capture Osama bin Laden after the Afghan war for fear of inciting trouble in his own country and the al-Qaeda leader is hiding in northern tribal areas of Pakistan, a media report has said. An agreement was reached between Musharraf and the US authorities shortly after the terrorist mastermind fled from Tora Bora caves in eastern Afghanistan with the Taliban regime collapsing, The Guardian said quoting Monsoor Ijaz, a Pak-American financier who has spent years tracking Laden's movements and operations.

Campbell did redraft Iraq dossier
A staggering 6000 pages of documents released yesterday afternoon by the Hutton Inquiry include e-mails from Number 10 and briefing papers that confirm Alastair Campbell, Tony Blair’s communications chief, had been actively involved in discussions on the compilation of the Iraq dossier with John Scarlett, chairman of the joint intelligence committee (JIC). Campbell wrote: “I had many discussions with the chairman of the JIC on presentational issues arising from the dossier and, in common with other officials, made drafting suggestions as the document evolved through various drafts.”
Experts Doubt U.S. Claim on Iraqi Drones
Huddled over a fleet of abandoned Iraqi drones, U.S. weapons experts in Baghdad came to one conclusion: Despite the Bush administration's public assertions, these unmanned aerial vehicles weren't designed to dispense biological or chemical weapons.
Israel Destroys Entire Commercial Market In One Day
Marking the single largest demolition of buildings in years, the entire commercial area of Nazlat 'Isa was today razed to the ground as some 15 bulldozers, accompanied by large numbers of military and border police, entered the community at 5:00 AM and destroyed over 100 shops and 5 homes. The market, which was previously targeted in January of this year with the destruction of 82 or close to one half of its shops, has been the commercial center for the entire region. The bulldozers began the demolitions early in the morning and continued unabated until the late hours of the night.
The Secretive World Of Voting Machines
Over the last 100 years Americans have slowly but surely surrendered our public voting process to private corporations and their voting machines... in violation of our constitutional right to fair, open, and observable elections. The price paid has been the legitimacy of our democracy. And countries around the world are following our lead. Today, two Republican dominated corporations, Election Systems and Software (ES&S) and Diebold Voting Systems, control about 80% of the vote count in the U.S.. Meanwhile, the long history of election upsets due to voting machine "glitches", that overwhelmingly favor Republican candidates, continues to grow. Where is the outrage? Where's the concern? Where are the Democrats? Citizens have a constitutional right to a election process that is transparent and observable. The use of a voting machine prevents that. Voting machines are easy to rig and impossible to monitor. It's a Trojan Horse, a Pandora's Box, an accident waiting to happen... all rolled into one. Poll watchers have nothing to watch. Federal Observers have nothing to observe. And that makes the Voting Rights Act unenforceable.

The Latest Bogus Fossil-Nuke Blackout: This Grid Should Not Exist
This is the fourth---and worst---completely unnecessary major blackout of the Northeast in forty years, dating back to 1965. It's scope---from Detroit to Ottawa to New York and New Jersey---is absolutely awesome, especially since it's due to total stupidity and corruption. This does not count the blackouts that raged through California in 2000-2001. Those were "blackmails," set by Enron and the other Bush gas cronies to rip $60 billion out of the state, leading to, among other things, the impending ouster of Gov. Gray Davis. When the lights went out, Davis kissed the feet of Southern California Edison's John Bryson, who engineered a deregulation bill that gouged $30 billion out of the ratepayers for the state's failed nukes. That opened the gates for the gas pirates to steal yet another $60 billion. Davis got caught in the backdraft. The culprits in this latest northeastern disaster are basically the same---the barons of fossil and nuclear power and their cronies in the electric utility business.
