Effects of Depleted Uranium Shells DU bullets are a messy busines. After the first gulf war a lot of Iraqi tanks had to be buried or just left alone due to the high radioactivitiy that they possessed. The tragic joke is on the US soldiers because after the fighting the wind then whips up the sand which disperses all of the lingering radioactive material and exposes the US troops to dangerous levels of radioactivity.
